About Amit Sah Story
On October 22, 1964, Smt. Kusumben and Shri Anilchandra Shah, from a wealthy Gujarati family, welcomed Amit Shah into the world. In every way, Amit Shah embodies the burgeoning New India. As the Party’s leader for the past five years, he has achieved remarkable success in growing the BJP’s organizational footprint and winning successive state assembly elections. With more than 10 crore registered members, the Party has grown to become the largest political party in the world during his leadership.

Amit Shah really rise from the bottom up to become the head of India’s dominant party. He first became a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh before joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and rising to the position of Ahmedabad city unit secretary. Later on, he also took on the roles of Vice President and Secretary of the Gujarat State BJP. He was appointed the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s (BJYM) National Treasurer in 1997.He was in charge of various National Leaders’ election campaigns, notably those of L K Advani in 1991 and Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1996, both in the Gandhi Nagar Parliamentary constituency, thanks to his commitment, skill, and most importantly, his results-driven performance.
It makes sense that Amit Shah was once again the Campaign Chief when Shri Narendra Modi chose to run for office in 2001 in the Rajkot-2 assembly constituency.
Amit Shah gained notoriety for his skillful management of organizational issues in addition to campaigns. He was named the BJP’s National General Secretary and In-Charge of Uttar Pradesh in 2013. The BJP achieved a historic victory in the 2014 parliamentary elections thanks to his meticulously executed efforts.
Since July 2014, when he assumed the position of BJP National President, there has been no turning back. The BJP has built governments in Haryana, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Tripura, and Himachal Pradesh over the past five years under the joint leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Party President Amit Shah. Additionally, the BJP has regained control in states like Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Assam, Goa, and Manipur alongside its coalition allies. The BJP was the ruling coalition’s junior partner until recently in Jammu and Kashmir, and it is currently the junior partner in Bihar, Nagaland, and Meghalaya.
President of the BJP (2014–2019) :
Shah’s appointment as the party’s president was overwhelmingly endorsed by the central parliamentary board of the BJP in July 2014. On January 24, 2016, the party unanimously re-elected him as its president. Shah launched a vigorous membership drive after taking office as party president, and by March 2015, the BJP had amassed 100 million members.
The BJP lost the elections in Delhi and Bihar between 2014 and 2016, but won the Legislative Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, and Assam.
In addition, Shah led the party’s campaign in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the 2017 assembly elections. With 312 seats out of 403, this was the BJP’s best-ever election run. In Manipur, the BJP also made headway. The BJP seized power from the Congress in the 2017 Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections and won the Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections for a record six times. With two-thirds of the vote, the BJP achieved its first victory in March 2018 in the left-leaning state of Tripura in the northeast. Along with its allies, the BJP established a government in Meghalaya and Nagaland after making advances in both regions.
Shah became the most successful BJP president after leading the party to victory in the 2019 Indian general election. He held nearly 1,500 BJP meetings, 18 roadshows, and 161 public meetings while campaigning in 312 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. Shah launched a program he named “Mission 300 Par” in which he set the seemingly ambitious goal of achieving 300 seats (Ab ki Baar 300 paar). Under his direction as party president, the task was completed, solidifying the BJP’s position as India’s unchallenged political hegemon.
Often referred to as a modern-day Chanakya, he is an admirer of the young Chandragupta Maurya, who skillfully succeeded the Nanda dynasty. In 2016, he responded to inquiries on a portrait of Chanakya at his home in New Delhi by saying: “[I admire] Chanakya because he was knowledgeable. His teachings are timeless. There are issues with politics, the economy, and government. Another one of his favorite works is the Bhagavata Purana, which he studied while incarcerated in 2010 in relation to Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s passing.
